    Status of a study of the state Grain Train program, which supplies grain cars for shippers in Whitman County, was reported by Debbie Snell, Port of Whitman Properties and Development Manager, at the Aug. 18 meeting of the Port of Whitman. “It’s rolling. Everything seems to be going well,” she said. “It’s moving forward.” The Port in May put out a request for proposals (RFP) seeking a consultant.   • Colfax economic panel seeks 2017 proposals

    Colfax’s Economic Development, Tourism and Events Committee has issued a call for proposed projects for 2017’s fiscal year lodging tax funds. The call asks for applicants to propose ideas for tourism promotion activities, tourism-related activities or events and festivals.   • Tractor suspected of igniting Green Hollow fire

    -Bill Carroll photo Fire crews from District 11 responded to a fire Friday afternoon at the Nick Haugerud ranch located on Green Hollow Road about four miles south of the Highway 23 intersection. The fire was reported here at 4:41 p.m. Friday. Suspected cause of the fire was a crawler tractor. Haugerud said 30 minutes before the fire was discovered he drove the tractor across the area where it started.
