    The first Colfax Color Mob 5K run/walk will be July 27 starting at Schmuck Park in Colfax. Part of the 5K fun run will be in the concrete channel of the South Palouse River as part of the revived Concrete River Festival event that weekend.     The Colfax Bulldog softball team marked an end to the 2013 campaign last Thursday by extending a farewell to their lone senior, Catcher Rachel Robinson. Coach Terry Eng noted Robinson now rates number one on the all-time Colfax batting average list at .451. She struck out only five times in 110 at bats and didn’t book a single strikeout over the first 14 games of the season.     St. John-Endicott H.S. finishes second in statewide honor Colton High School is the recipient of the 2013 1B WIAA/Washington Army National Guard Scholastic Cup.     Led LaCrosse/Washtucna to five state championships A big chapter in Whitman county sports came to a finish this spring when L/W football coach Jeff Nelson decided to step aside after 19 years of heading the Tigercats. Nelson, who begain his teaching career at Washtucna, totaled five state titles with the Tigercats. The championships included four straight eight-man titles with a run of 48 straight wins.     Members of the Colfax Class of 2013 recieved a total of $860,000 in scholarships and awards, Supt. Michael Morgan announced when presenting the class of 41 seniors at Saturday’s commencement.     The Farmington City Council compromised on a man’s request to build into the right-of-way of a town street.     After months of remodeling and delays, the Grillbilly Cafe, LaCrosse’s new restaurant, opened May 29.   • Regular inspections say local bridges safe

    State and county officials report many bridges in this area, although old, remain in good condition. Concern about bridges in the state follows the collapse of a span on the Interstate 5 bridge over the Skagit River in the northwest corner of the state. Whitman County Public Works Director Mark Storey said all 246 county bridges are inspected every two years.     Whitman County Auditor Eunice Coker on Monday requested funding for a new election tabulator. Coker said it would cost $250,000 for two new tabulators to replace the two older tabulators now used by the elections office. After negotiations with the vendor, Coker said the price for one new machine was quoted at $102,652 with a trade-in allowance, two printers, training and shipping and handling.     The third presentation of state’s evidence in the Dec. 27, 2011, shooting death of Marcus Schur at Malden continued into Wednesday in the second trial of Daniel Lazcano, 22. Lazcano has been in jail at Colfax since Feb. 21 when the jury in his first trial reported they were unable to reach a verdict on murder and kidnapping charges after a trial which lasted close to two weeks.
