    Paul Bilderback, 76, Colfax, was taken by ambulance to Whitman Hospital Monday afternoon after sustaining injuries in a collision on Highway 195 just south of Papé Machinery. Bilderback was driving a 2013 Toyota Tundra pickup southbound at 1:02 p.m. when he struck the trailer of a semi truck which had crossed the highway and gone into the ditch on the west side of the highway.   • Tekoa building sited in fraud case

    A building on Crosby Street in Tekoa which sustained a roof collapse under the winter’s snow load is linked to a welfare fraud case which actually dates back to 2013. Tekoa Mayor John Jaeger last week reported the owner of the building, Karl Keith Anderson, 64, has failed to meet two Tekoa city deadlines for dealing with the damaged structure. Anderson was supposed to have fallen bricks around the building cleared by Monday and a protective fence installed.     A free dental screening for Pullman residents 65 and older will be May 17 at the Pullman Senior Center, 325 SE Paradise Street. Appointments can be scheduled from 11:30 to 4:30 p.m. This event is made possible by the Washington Dental Service Foundation. Each participant will receive a free oral hygiene kit and a $25 gift card. To make an appointment, call the senior center at 509-338-3307. A limited number of appointments are available.     The Port of Whitman County last week awarded a contract to Clark’s Roofing of Pullman for a roof repair replacement project at Boyer Park & Marina. Port staffer Kara Riebold told port commissioners at a meeting a month ago that the roof of a pump house at Boyer had been leaking, and insects had also been getting in through the roof. The bid includes blowing insulation in the roof that is more resistant to bugs, she said.     The Endicott play park could get a boost if enough votes for the community are cast in the Meet Me at the Park grant initiative.     The Port of Whitman County at its meeting last week discussed the installation of a communications hut in Garfield. The hut will allow for more homes to have access to fiber. “It’s primarily for companies that are selling internet services,” said Joe Poiré, Port executive director, of the hut. The 10x20 hut will be constructed on Third Street in Garfield, said Kara Riebold, Port staffer.
