    Spokane-bound drivers from the Palouse country are among those asked to be extra cautious in the coming months at the highway interchange project at the intersection of Highway 195 and the Spokane-Cheney (Marshall) Road. The intersection is a popular fueling stop for motorists who are departing southbound from Spokane. Official highway location of the interchange is mile marker 94.     First were the scablands followed by the former Lake Missoula Glaciers of Montana. Now it’s time for the third two-day trip for the Whitman County Historical Society: the Hanford “B” Reactor.   • Colton, Colfax ballots out

    Ballots were mailed out Friday for the special school elections for the Colton and Colfax school districts. Colton school directors are seeking voters’ approval for a $5.6 million bond over 30 years to finance upgrades to the school building. Colfax school directors seek approval of a $250,000 special levy for security improvements to the high school and grade school.     Approximately 75 people surprised retiring Palouse EMS Coordinator Gloria Hodges Friday at Palouse. The reception was at the William A. Wolf Public Safety Building to honor Hodges’ 28 years as a volunteer for the Palouse EMS. The event took place at the conclusion of a blood drive at the building. When Hodges stepped inside the van to give blood, her colleagues pulled out hidden decorations and refreshments.     A proposal by the Rosalia School District to combine all sports with Tekoa and Oakesdale has been rescinded. Due to lower numbers in grade school classes, Rosalia put forth the idea in January which culminated in community meetings in Tekoa and Oakesdale.     Whitman County commissioners have signed an agreement with Whitcom, the county emergency 911 dispatch service, to help pay for installation of new equipment for 11 of the operator sites. The agency handles emergency 911 dispatch services. It needs to replace equipment which includes licenses, core electronics and radio interface. Whitcom estimates the cost to replace the equipment at $400,000.   • Corps says cattle ‘trespassing’ must end along Snake River

    Ranchers who graze cattle along the Snake River will meet with representatives of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Saturday. Both sides will discuss the issue of cattle continuing to graze along the river. The meeting will be at Riley’s River Ranch, according to Walter Riley. “It affects everybody up and down the river on both sides,” he said.
