    COLFAX — Whitman County could drop a phase in the state virus reopening stages. Whitman County Public Health Director Chris Skidmore gave an assessment to county commissioners Monday morning. "What phase are we going to be in this evening, Chris?" asked commissioner Michael Largent.     OLYMPIA — Gov. Jay Inslee is expected to sign a bill today, April 14, that would begin the process of removing statues of perhaps the state's most prominent figure from the Capitol building and the National Statuary in Washington, D.C. The governor has called an 11:30 a.m. signing ceremony, where he will sign House Bill 1372 into law. The bill would replace the statues of Pacific Northwest pioneer, teacher and missionary Marcus Whitman.   • Highway 27 closed due to wildfire near Spokane Valley

    SPOKANE VALLEY — State Highway 27 is closed five miles south of the city due to multiple wildfires. The highway is currently closed between Belmont and Gibbs roads, the Washington State Patrol reported at 2:20 p.m. today, April 14.
