    Palouse Prairie Foundation will sponsor “Camas: The plant that fed Nations,” by Karen Trebitz Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. in the Edith Hecht room at Neill Public Library in Pullman. Now a WSU graduate student, she will report on her study of the historical use and cultural value of camas to Inland Northwest Indians, its destruction by settlers and restoration efforts.     Jackie W. Duncan Jackie Wayne Duncan passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, in Moscow, Idaho. Jack was born in Franklin, Ky., on June 28, 1940, the son of Carl E. and Beulah M. Duncan. He grew up in Bowling Green, Ky., where he went on to play quarterback for Bowling Green High in 1956 and 1957. After graduation, Jack ventured west to follow his brothers to California and work for General Telephone. He was drafted into the Army where he served during the Cuban Missile Crisis.     Dusty Steve and Becky Camp attended the Harvesting Clean Energy Conference for the western states this month. Their organization, C Farms Energy, received an award as the Innovator of the Year for the state of Washington for their biodiesel project. They also both picked up the flu while they were in Oregon. News has been received of the death last week of Tony Balsa of San Jose, Calif. He was the husband of Dusty native Helen Scheideman Balsa. They had four children, one of whom preceded him in death.     Tekoa eighth grader Tatiana Mendoza will compete at the Elks Regional Hoop Shoot March 2-3 in Vancouver. Mendoza won the age 12-13 championship for the state of Idaho. Tekoa is included in Idaho for the purpose of the Elks’ competition.     The secondary school jazz band, a group of 35 musicians from Revelstroke, B.C., is staying in Colfax while they attend and perform in the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival at the University of Idaho this week.     Tekoa High School senior Alex Overton received $5,000 last week in “Impact Funds” from Wilbur-Ellis branch manager Bob Gardner. The funds will help Overton to complete Nighthawk Court, an outdoor basketball court which is her senior project. Impact funds are awarded by Wilbur-Ellis quarterly to community projects nationwide.
