EMT Scott Kruse was winner of the fourth Annual “What a Basket” raffle by the Colfax & Community Fund. Fund chair Jeanette Solimine reported the basket raffle, which was stationed in the Rosauers lobby, raised more than $800. The Moscow Community Theater will bring the former Broadway hit “Bus Stop” to the Empire Theater in Tekoa Saturday, Feb. 25, at 7 p.m. Following six performances at home, the theater company will bring its entire production to the Empire for the one Saturday show. Thrifty Grandmothers Sixteen members and one guest attended the Thrifty Grandmothers meeting at the library Monday. Marie Fowler from the Council on Aging & Human Services was the guest speaker. Members voted to donate $1,000 to the LaCrosse Pride building fund and $500 to the Council on Aging for Meals on Wheels. The club recently donated $300 to Relay for Life. Dogs are a focal point of an exhibit by Jennifer Rod of Moscow now showing at the Colfax Branch of Whitman County Library. In the series of paintings and steel sculptures, she demonstrates her creativity and talent for capturing the personality of man’s best friend. Rod received her Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Idaho. Colfax High School FCCLA members dropped pull tabs off at Spokane Ronald McDonald house Jan. 27. The group collected 154,574 tabs which weighed out at 122 pounds. The Palouse school board has a new member. Joe Merrill was appointed Jan. 26 to fill the seat of Will Thurman, who resigned in November. Merrill grew up in Garfield and graduated from Gar-Pal High School in 1988. He and wife Angela have a son in second grade at Palouse. Workers in Whitman County’s road department will receive 1.5 percent pay raises for 2012, retroactive to Jan. 1. County commissioners Monday unanimously approved a collective bargaining contract with the road employees union. The pay raise was the only substantial change to last year’s contract. The 39 county road workers in the union are represented by the Teamsters Local Union 690 out of Spokane. Rosalia repeats the dubious title of Whitman County’s most-taxed town this year. Assessor Joe Reynolds’ 2012 levy rates were officially approved by Whitman County commissioners Monday. Rosalians will pay $19.28 in taxes for each $1,000 of valuation on property they own. Rosalia’s rate increased from $18.53 last year. Rosalia’s citizens voted in $11.61 of the total tax bill by approving special levies.
