Mitchell wins national 4H speaking award

Crystal Mitchell, daughter of Dr.

Christine Mitchell of Pendleton, Ore., and granddaughter of Mary Ann Mitchell and the late David Mitchell of Steptoe, represented Oregon at the national 4H Horse Roundup public speaking contest Nov. 2-4 in Louisville, Ky.

Crystal won the national competition in public speaking with her speech titled “A New Generation” which discusses the thought and ethics behind cloning equines.

Crystal was presented a $500 college scholarship and a trophy, sponsored by the American Quarterhorse Association.

This was a once in a lifetime opportunity for Crystal to qualify and win the national competition.

She is an eight-year 4H member and a senior at Pendleton High School.
