Sand Road to be paved

Paving estimated to span over the next two years

COLFAX — Commissioners awarded the bid for the Sand Road Overlay Project to Motley and Motley Inc. at their regular Commissioners meeting Monday, June 3, for the bid amount of $2,389,785.35.

The project to pave Sand Road will happen over the course of two years with the first half of the road this year and the second half next year, Public Works Director Mark Storey told commissioners.

“That breaks up the cost a little bit,” Storey told commissioners, adding that they would know when people ask them these questions .

Commissioner Tom Handy asked if that is just closed through traffic.

“We never really truly close some of a road that provides access to through traffic,” said Storey, adding that to close a road completely is a different act that they try not to do. “We always try to provide access to people that have property or homes on the road,” he said.

Handy moved to award the Sand Overlay Project to Motley and Motley Inc.

The motion was seconded by Commissioner Michael Largent.

Storey updated the commissioners that during the week of June 17 the division would be doing their chip seal work on the Fairbanks Road Project. “So you might hear about our crews will be working on the 19,” Storey said, adding that the contract was enacted this year.

“The members who do work on that day will get another holiday,” he said.

Sand Road connects between Johnson Road, south of Pullman, to US 95, south of Moscow, Idaho.
