ST. JOHN - McKenzie Stanley of St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse high school capped off her senior golf season with a fourth place finish in the 1B state tournament.
The tournament was held Tuesday and Wednesday, May 21 and 22, in Tumwater at the Tumwater Valley Golf Club.
On the first day of the tournament, Stanley finished with an overall round of 93, qualifying her for the second day of the tournament.
Day two saw Stanley shoot an impressive 88 on the day, which was tied for second-best score of the tournament.
Stanley finished with an overall score of 181, earning her a fourth-place finish.
Naomi Molitor of Almira-Coulee-Hartline took first with a total score of 173.
Maddie Haas of Tekoa-Rosalia took ninth overall with her total score of 190.
"We were so proud of McKenzie. She had a lot of challenges that she faced this golf season but she was determined to give this season everything she had. She went into the state tournament with a very positive attitude and even though the weather was a factor she rose to the challenge," said Mishellena Stanley about her daughter.
"I was super excited going into state, I was happy with how I did! I was very grateful for good weather on the second day, and was happy I was able to improve on my standings compared to last year's tournament," said McKenzie Stanley about her state performance.
Next year, Stanley will be golfing for Columbia Basin College.
"As for college I'm super excited to continue to play golf and can't wait to watch my game grow," said Stanley.
As for Mishellena, she states, "We are so happy that she gets the opportunity to continue to play golf at Columbia Basin College. She has loved the game of golf for such a long time, and it is an exciting new chapter for her and her game."
Stanley was also a part of the St. John volleyball team this past fall, finishing eighth in state.
Columbia Basin College had two girl golfers on their roster this past season.
Rose McCartney, freshman, and Makena Nyby, sophomore, were the lone girls golfers.
The team had a total of seven golf tournaments last season, where one was played at the Columbia Basin College home course.
In the Northwest Athletic Conference championship golf meet, held Sunday and Monday, May 19-20, at the Apple Tree golf course, Nyby finished tied for eighth overall.
Stanley will look to continue the success of the girls Columbia Basin College golf program, as well as pursue her education.
