Serving Whitman County since 1877

James Repp

Aug. 4, 1926 - May 21, 2024

James Repp, auditor of Whitman County from 1974 to 1994, passed away peacefully at age 97 in his hometown of Colfax, Washington, on May 21, 2024. Jim was a devoted husband, father, and friend who will be deeply missed. Born in Colfax to Peter and Anna Repp on August 4, 1926, Jim spent his entire life in Colfax, deeply involved in his community.

Jim married the late Gloria Fahnlander Repp on September 12, 1947, and they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary shortly before her passing in 2017. He was preceded in death by sisters Emma Repp, Dorothy Weitz, and brother David Repp. He is survived by his two children, daughter Sheila and husband Bob Clark, and son James Paul and wife Debbie, as well as five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

With wife Gloria he purchased and operated the Daily Bulletin in Colfax, publishing it for several years. In his early career he owned and operated the Conoco service station at the corner of Main and Canyon Streets where Umpqua Bank now stands.

A lifetime member of Peace Lutheran of Colfax, he devoted much time and service to his church and his Savior. His involvement with his community included service on the boards of Hospice and Whitman Hospital, exalted ruler of the Colfax Elks Club, and active participation with the Whitman County Republican Party and Red Cross.

Jim took up golfing in retirement at age 71, and played with his son Jim, son-in-law Bob Clark, and good friend Ray McCown of Garfield, until he was 92. May we all be so blessed.

The family gives thanks to the staff at The Courtyard in Colfax for the loving care they provided Jim in his final years, and to the Gentiva Hospice team who helped us in Jim's last days.

A private interment for family will be held, and the family encourages donations to Friends of Hospice, PO Box 484, Pullman. Washington, in lieu of flowers. Corbeill Funeral Home in Colfax is in charge of the arrangements.
