Pomeroy hosts Cinco De Mayo Twilight Meet

Fun meet designed to have fun while preparing for state

OAKESDALE — The Cinco De Mayo Twilight track meet saw teams blow off some steam before regionals and state championships in the coming weeks.

The meet was held on Friday, May 3, in Pomeroy.

“Last meet was super fun to end the season. So fun and costumes in Pomeroy help blow off some tension and also connect with the athletes from the other schools. Everyone had fun. I think the coaches relay may have been the highlight,” said Oakesdale head coach Cap Perry.

In the meet, Valley Christian took both the men’s and women’s titles, scoring 154.5 points for the women, and 197 points for the men.

The Garfield-Palouse Viking girls took second overall with 110 team points, with the Oakesdale Nighthawks scoring 76 team points, followed by the St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse Eagles with 59 team points, and the Tekoa-Rosalia Timberwolves with 22 team points.

The Eagle boys finished fourth with 53.5 team points, followed by the Vikings with 52.5, and the Nighthawks with 47 team points.

The Timberwolves scored 25.5 team points, finishing eighth.

“There were some good PR’s from a lot of kids, but really just getting tuned for Regionals,” said Perry.
