Vikings register first win

Took down Eagles 14-4 for first win of season

GARFIELD — The Garfield-Palouse Vikings took down the St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse Eagles 14-4 in the first game of a double-header. The games were played on Saturday, April 20, in Garfield.

The win against the Eagles was the first win of the season for the Vikings.

The second game was a 19-8 victory for the Eagles, evening the series at 1-1.

Before the two Whitman County teams met, the Vikings lost 13-0 to the Pomeroy Pirates, played on Tuesday, April 16.

Riley Pfaff pitched five-and-a-third innings for the Vikings. He allowed eight runs, four earned, on 14 hits with four walks.

Walker Montgomery pitched the last two-thirds of an inning, allowing five runs on three hits.

The game against the Eagles in which the Vikings were victorious saw Rowan Edwards pitch three-and-two-thirds innings. He allowed three runs on five hits with six walks.

Garfield-Palouse had 10 hits in the game, led by three from Max Mitzimberg and two from Cason Sperber. Sperber had three RBIs, tied for the team-high with three from Eldyn Fiscus.

The second game in the series saw the Vikings fall 19-8 against the Eagles.

Colton Pfaff pitched four innings, allowing seven runs, four earned, on three hits.

Edwards and Preston Olson each had three hits to lead the Vikings offensively in the game.

Edwards had two RBIs, followed by one each from Colton and Riley Pfaff, Olson and Mitzimberg.
