Timberwolf softball push through tough weather

Game was played after 45 minute weather delay

TEKOA- The Tekoa-Rosalia Timberwolves took down the Pomeroy Pirates 11-10 in a game in Tekoa on Thursday, April 18.

The weather was a crisp 37 degrees at first pitch, with the game halted for 45 minutes due to both a snow, rain and hail delay.

Assistant Coach Rob Wilkins spread QuickDry and cat litter all around the pitching mound, baseline and infield to dry the field out enough to get underway.

Once the game got underway, the Timberwolves scored seven runs in the first inning, then four in the second inning to total 11 runs.

Their 11 runs were scored on six hits, where as Pomeroy had 10 runs on 15 hits, but fell one-run short.

Pomeroy scored four runs in the last two innings, but the Timberwolf defense did enough to stand tall.

Libby Lehn pitched all seven innings for the Timberwolves. She allowed 10 earned runs on 15 hits with five walks. She would strikeout an impressive 12 batters in the game.

Offensively, Lehn led the way with two hits, followed by one each from Clare Wilkins, Kailey McElderry, Abagale McGuire and Alexis Taylor. Taylor would walk four times in the game as well.

After the one-run victory against the Pirates, the Timberwolves took on the Garfield-Palouse Vikings for a double-header. The games were played on Saturday, April 20, in Garfield.

The Vikings would split the series with the Timberwolves. Tekoa-Rosalia lost the first game 11-12, then answered with a dominating 19-6 victory.

As of Tuesday, April 23, the Timberwolves are ranked as the number 14 team in the state for the 1B division, based off the RPI rankings provided by the WIAA.

For the Vikings, they currently sit in 19th in the state. Both team trail the Colton Wildcats, who are ranked sixth in the state.

For the Timberwolves, their next game will be Thursday, April 25, when they take on Inchelium for a double-header. Both games will be in Tekoa, with the first game set to start at 2 p.m.

The Garfield-Palouse Vikings will play their next game on Saturday, April 27, for a double-header against the Colton Wildcats. The game will be in Colton, with first pitch of game one set for 11 a.m.

The Wildcats are currently on a hot streak, winning nine of their last 11 games.

Their most recent game was against the Genesee Bulldogs, played in Colton on Friday, April 19.

Unfortunately for the Wildcats, they fell 17-3 to Genesee.

Kiya Soza pitched three innings for the Wildcats. She allowed five runs, one earned, on six hits with four strikeouts.

Clare Moehrle stepped in for the final two innings, allowing 12 runs on five hits with eight walks.

Of the five hits by the Wildcats, Kaydee Heitstuman led the way with two. Soza, Kate Schultheis and Ella Nollmeyer each had one hit for Colton on the day.

Colton only had one RBI for their three runs, batted in by Kyndra Stout.
