High speed car chase leads to arrest
CLARKSTON – Mikey Taylor, 19, of Clarkston, has been arrested and booked into the Whitman County Jail for taking a vehicle without permission and attempting to elude a police vehicle.
Reports say that on Wednesday, April 17, at approximately 9:27 a.m., a black Chevy pickup was traveling 85 mph southbound along State Route (SR) 195 at Milepost 58.
Washington State Patrol (WSP) Trooper James Retzner states that he signaled to the vehicle; however, upon signaling, the vehicle began to speed upwards of 122 mph.
“My communication center advised the vehicle was stolen, and I asked my supervision for permission to pursue and followed with lights
and siren activated until I was notified unless I had probable cause for DUI, I needed to disengage. I deactivated my emergency equipment in Steptoe, pulled it to the shoulder, and stopped,” said Retzner.
Reports say Retzner notified local law enforcement in the area.
Later, reports say that Trooper Brawdy noticed the same vehicle taking off at a high rate of speed near SR 27 and Albion Road.
Washington State University (WSU) Police Department found the vehicle abandoned at 2201 Whelan Road. Retzner was called out and identified that the license plate and vehicle description were a match from earlier, reports say.
“I noticed clothes and, a sleeping bag and several articles of clothing laying beside the vehicle like someone had changed clothes. We then noticed four younger people walking down the railroad tracks away from the 2201 Whelan Road,” he said.
Reports say that Whitman County Sheriff Brett Myers identified the driver as Taylor.
Taylor was booked into Whitman County Jail on two felony charges and claims he was not the driver, but Justin Wilkins was the driver.
