Palouse hosts photo contest

Photo submissions accepted through July 31

PALOUSE — The Palouse Audubon Society is hosting a photo contest for amateur photographers to capture birds, or other wildlife.

Photo submissions started Monday, April 1 through July 31.

The contest has two categories birds and other wildlife including insects, mammals, fish, and the like. Photographers can also submit photos of landscapes including environments, ecosystems, conservation, and bird friendly photos.

The contest calls for photos taken in any outdoor location on the Palouse, and cannot not include images of people, pets, domesticated, or captive animals.

The contest is only open to amateur photographers, with only a total of five submissions,

There will be cash prizes awarded to the winners with $60 for first and $40 for second place to each of the two categories for an adult group and under 18 age group.

High resolution digital images at 10 megabytes in a .jpg, .png or .pdf format.

Photo submissions will be judged on technical merit, including focus, sharpness, detail, depth of field, color, contrast, brightness, saturation, and use of light.

Other factors in judging include composition, creativity, and visual impact.

Photos cannot be digitally altered beyond basic adjustments to lighting, color, contrast, and cropping.

Winners will be announced at the September or October Palouse Audubon Society program meeting.
