'Aladdin Jr.' receives ovation

Tekoa students perform Disney show Aladdin Jr.

TEKOA - Young thespians received a standing ovation when the curtains closed on the Tekoa Elementary School production of Disney's "Aladdin Jr."

Every seat in the Empire Theater was filled for the March 26 and 28 performances, with some standing in the shadows to watch the elementary school play, a youth rendition of Disney's classic "Aladdin."

Ryker French took the lead role as Aladdin, along with Ella Arthur as Jasmine and Emma Carren as Genie.

Others in the cast include Kialee Babb, Allyvia Fuchs, Briston Babb, Ariah Tadlock, Mila Allen, Rosalynn Deardorff, Laci Fontenot, Kylah Flower, Brantley Carey, Rayner Nocker, Olivia Nocker, Troy Sczenski, Kennedy McWhorter, Dulce Bernal, Anna Golden, Abbey Golden and Talon Keatts, all as Agrabahns.

Elise Sczenki was Babkak, while Kole Johnson portrayed Omark 1 and Ada McIntyre was Omark 2.

Kassim was played by Fisher Whan, while Reyson Ramirez was Sultan and Makayla Taufan was Jafar.

Violet Smith played Iago and Margot Burnett was Miago; Mila Allen and Allyvia Fuchs portrayed shop owners.

Grady Willard was Razoul, head of the guards. He was accompanied by guards Aleah McElderry, Degan Himes, Charlie Haas, Tyler Schmelter, Alex Arnold, Jackson Fuller and Carsten Haeg.

Meanwhile, Laci Fontenot, Kylah Flowers and Brantley Carey performed as beggars.

The apple vendor was portrayed by Lucian Woolsey and the fortune teller was Rosalynn Deardorff.

Other roles included Bayler Chase as Prince Abdullah, Ariella Vasquez as Manal, Skylar Olivier as Rajah, Khaliysee Anderson, Kayleigh Pope as attendants, and Lilly Hoffman as Isir.

Nissi Bone, Anamun Larsen and Delyla Lawhead served as princess attendants, and Rylan Carey provided the play's "spooky voice."

The students also took over all the backstage functions as well, with Carsten Haeg, Keenan Morris, Talon Keatts and Tyler Schmelter on lights.

Rylan Carey and Kyle Taufen provided sound and served as co-directors, and Reyson Ramirez, Bayler Chase and Fisher Whan served as stagehands.
