Serving Whitman County since 1877

James "Jim" Ike Thompson

March 1, 1963 - January 29, 2024

Jim Thompson of Steptoe, Wash., passed away peacefully at home on Monday January 29, 2024.

James (Jim) Ike Thompson was born March 1, 1963, in Colfax, Wash., to Ike and Mary Thompson of St. John, Wash. He grew up in St. John and Sunset, Wash., with his sisters Reatha and Theresa. Growing up Jim enjoyed playing football for St. John Eagles and was part of the FFA. He had a love for muzzleloading and hunting. He loved his 1968 Chevelle. Jim also worked for different farmers throughout high school. He graduated from St. John high school in 1981.

After high school Jim went to work for Whitman County. In September of 1984, Jim married Juli Campbell of Uniontown, Wash. In 1986, they welcomed their first child, Eric Ike Thompson. In 1989, they welcomed Katie Elizabeth Thompson. They moved from Sunset in 1990 to Steptoe, Wash., where Jim still lived.

Jim shared his love of camping, hunting, muzzleloading and the outdoors with his kids and later on with his grandson Cole. Cole’s favorite memory of Papa Jim was when they spent the day at the gun show and they picked out a .22 for Cole and Jim to shoot together.

In recent years Jim had his own excavation company and worked all over Whitman County. He was a Whitman County go-to-guy if you needed to get stuff done. He was a jack of all trades and will be greatly missed by many.

Jim is survived by daughter, Katie Curtis of Lewiston Id, grandson Cole Curtis and many cousins and friends that became his family. Jim was preceded in death by his parents Ike and Mary Thompson, sisters Reatha and Theresa Thompson, Son Eric Ike Thompson, nephew Jerrod Campbell, his best friend Kevin Mills and many other family and friends.

A Celebration of Life in honor of Jim will be held Saturday March 2, 2024, at 2 p.m., at the St. John community building. Corbeill Funeral Homes in Colfax is caring for the family. On-line condolences may be made at http://www.corbeillfuneralhomes.com
