Bulldogs head to State

COLFAX - After an outstanding end to the season, the Colfax Bulldogs boys and girls basketball teams both will head to the 2B WIAA state tournament.

Both teams won their district crossover matches on Saturday, Feb. 17, in West Valley, to advance to state.

The girls were up first, taking on Liberty Bell. Colfax dominated the match, taking the 67-21 victory.

Colfax held Liberty Bell to just two points in the first quarter, where as the Bulldogs scored 23 first quarter points.

Brynn McGaughy led all scorers in the first with 10 points. Hailey Demler was close behind with nine points.

During the second quarter, Colfax scored 16 points while Liberty Bell scored 11. Colfax would take a 39-13 lead into the second half.

Liberty Bell would come out of the halftime break to score six total points. Colfax scored 17 to take a commanding lead into the fourth,

The final quarter saw the Bulldogs hold Liberty Bell to two points for the second quarter. Colfax scored 11 to win the game by 46 points.

McGaughy finished with 24 points and 11 rebounds, out-scoring Liberty Bell by herself.

Demler finished with 21 points and 10 rebounds with four assists. Ava Swan had eight points and six rebounds, and Brenna Gilchrist had seven points and two assists.

Colfax enters the state tournament as the number four overall seed. Their opening round game will be Friday, Feb. 23, against the number five seed Rainier. The game will be played in West Valley, and will tip at 8 p.m.

A victory Friday will see Colfax play on Thursday, Feb. 29, at a site yet to be finalized.

A loss puts Colfax in a loser-out match on Wednesday, Feb. 28, at 12:15 p.m.

The Colfax boys basketball team followed the girls game Saturday, Feb. 17, with a victory against Manson.

Colfax would win 71-46, putting their overall record to 25-0.

The Bulldogs enter the state tournament as the third overall seed, and are one of three unbeaten teams in 2B.

The Bulldogs opening game will be Friday, Feb. 23, against Toutle Lake. The game will be in West Valley, with tip-off set for 6 p.m.

A victory puts Colfax in a match on Thursday, Feb. 29, at 7:15 p.m. at a site to be finalized, a loss will be a loser-out match for Colfax on Wednesday, Feb. 28, tipping at 3:45 p.m.
