Sausage Shoot Sunday

Can buy sausages on-site throughout the event

DUSTY — The 76th Annual Sausage Shoot is set to take place this Sunday, Feb. 11, from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 p.m. The shoot will take place at Dusty Gun Club, located just east of Dusty.

Dusty gun club started in 1946 by a group of farmers in Dusty. The first year of the sausage shoot saw hogs brought in from the town of Penawawa.

From the gun club president “In the winter the old road next to the railroad tracks was under water. The solution: They found when the train was coming and a few of them rode horseback and herded the hogs down the track to Penawawa. They then trucked them to Fritz Steigers to process. It was the old fashioned way.”

The old fashioned way of preparing, cooking, and stuffing the hogs into sausage with hand stuffers is still used. Per year, the club does an average of 2,200-2,300 pounds per year and sell sausage dogs at the counter during the shoot, with sausage sandwiches available for purchase at the lunch counter.
