Warrant issued for Tekoa man

Shelton could face life in prison when caught

TEKOA – A nationwide manhunt is underway for Carl Shelton, 23, of Tekoa, who was convicted of child rape and failed to appear in court for a probation violation hearing.

Shelton, who pleaded guilty to second-degree child rape for assaulting a girl in Tekoa in 2020, was sentenced by Judge Gary Libey to six months in jail and ordered to undergo several years of sex offender treatment as part of a Special Sex Offender Sentencing Alternative.

However, Shelton’s absence at his recent court date has triggered a nationwide arrest warrant issued by Judge Libey, with no bond specified.

If found guilty of the probation violation, Shelton could face the possibility of a life sentence in prison. Authorities urge anyone with information regarding Shelton’s whereabouts to come forward as they intensify efforts to bring him to justice.

According to the arrest report, the victim was 13 years old at the time of the incident.

Reports say the accused, Carl Shelton, was booked on one charge of tampering with a witness and two charges of child rape in 2020. According to the report, he allegedly offered the reporting party marijuana to keep her from telling anyone.
