Seth Lustig ready to lead Colfax boys district run

COLFAX - Near the conclusion of the 2023-24 regular season, four 2B WIAA teams are undefeated.

One of the four is the Colfax Bulldogs, who hold a 20-0 record on the season after winning two games in the final week of the regular season to finish first in the district with a 13-0 district record.

With 20 wins on the season heading into the district playoffs, they are one win away from the most wins since the 2014-15 season, when the team won 21 games, however, that includes playoff wins.

Since Max Preps became a company in 2005-06, Colfax has won a high of 23 games in the 2010-11 season.

With the Bulldogs being favored to win the district tournament, and make a run at state this year, Colfax is expected to surpass 23 wins.

For the 2023-24 team, Colfax dominated their final two games of the regular season, securing the top seed in the district tournament.

The week started with a match against the Liberty (Spangle) Lancers. The game was played on Thursday, Jan. 25, in Colfax.

When these teams met earlier this season, Colfax came away with the 56-49 victory. This time around, Colfax would earn the 65-52 victory.

Colfax scored 16 points in the first quarter, led by six from Adrik Jenkin.

In the second, the Bulldogs added 14 points to their total, bringing them to a 30-22 halftime lead.

The third quarter saw Liberty score 13 points, while Colfax exploded for 21. Jenkin had eight in the quarter, and JP Wigen added six.

Colfax would close out the match with a 14-point fourth quarter. Although Liberty scored 17, Colfax did enough in the first three quarters to earn the 13-point victory.

Jenkin led all scorers with 27 points for Colfax. He made 11 total shots, including five three's.

Seth Lustig had 14 points and nine rebounds for Colfax, and Jayce Kelly had 10 points and nine rebounds.

The next game for Colfax was against the Asotin Panthers. The game was played Friday, Jan. 26, in Asotin.

Both teams put up three strong quarters, with Colfax holding the Panthers to five points in the fourth quarter as the Bulldogs would win 59-44.

Colfax would find themselves in a four-point hole after one, with Asotin leading 18-14.

In the second quarter, Colfax scored 17 points, holding Asotin to 10 to take the three-point lead at halftime. Jenkin had 13 in the first half.

During the third quarter, Colfax out-scored the Panthers by four to extend their lead to seven heading into the final quarter of play.

Colfax would stand tall in the fourth, their defense held Asotin to just five points as Colfax would win by 15.

Jenkin finished with 15 points, Wigen had 12, and Kelly tacked on 11 more.

Colfax will play their opening round district playoff game on Saturday, Feb. 3, at the main gym in West Valley high school. The opponent has not been made official at the time of press.

Should Colfax win their opening round district match, they will then play Wednesday, February. 7, in West Valley at 5 p.m.

If the Bulldogs lose their game on Saturday, Feb. 3, they will play a loser-out match on Wednesday, Feb. 7, at 6: 30 p.m.

The district championship match will take place on Saturday, Feb. 10, in West Valley at 5 p.m. Both teams in the district championship match will advance to the crossover match.

This year, Colfax's district champion, second-place finisher, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth all will advance to district crossover matches.

To advance to the state tournament, the teams in the district crossover match must win. A loss will eliminate the team from state.
