Two meets in a row for Bulldogs

COLFAX - Grace Jones headlined Colfax in their two meets last week with a fourth place finish for the girls team in the Clearwater Classic meet. The meet took place Friday and Saturday, Jan. 19 and 20, in Lewiston.

Jones and the Bulldogs boys team also competed Thursday, Jan. 18, in Reardan, for a league meet.

In the Reardan meet, the results are as follows:

For 106 pounds, Ty Scott went 1-1 with a pin.

For 113 pounds, Cameron Mathia went 0-1.

For 115 pounds, Grace Jones went 2-0 with two pins.

For 120 pounds, Cody Phillips went 2-0 with two pins.

For 126 pounds, Cooper Phillips went 1-0 with a pin.

For 132 pounds, Walker Montgomery went 1-1 with a pin.

For 150 pounds, Austin Campbell went 0-2, and Wyatt Southern went 0-1.

For 157 pounds, Joel Burris went 1-1 with a pin.

For 175 pounds, Steven Campbell went 0-1.

For 190 pounds, Isaac Nelson went 1-1 with a pin, and TJ Fox went 0-2.

For 285 pounds, Tristen Burd went 2-0 with two pins.

The meet in Lewiston saw Colfax compete with 20 different boys teams, and 13 girls teams.

On the boys side, the Bulldogs finished in 17th place with 20 points, and Jones finished 11th for the girls with 25 points for her fourth place finish.

The overall boys winning school was Coeur d'Alene, with 214 team points. Lewiston took the girls victory with 109 team points.

Jones wrestled in the girls 114 pound division in Lewiston, finishing in fourth place. She started the meet with a victory by fall in 1:19 against Justyne Sorensen of Cheney, then lost by technical fall in 2:09 to Joely Slyter of Lewiston.

Jones then lost by decision in round three to Adriana Hartzell of New Plymouth, 7-3.

In round four, Jones took down Riley Parsons of Clearwater Valley in :43, before defeating Kendall Pope of Cheney in 1:18, and defeated Zoie Lawson by forfeit in round six.

Jones would lose by fall in 5:10 to Audry Winkles of Tri-Valley, then defeated Joelyn Hart of Clarkston in 1:42. Finally, Jones would defeat Stormy Conway of Davenport by fall in round nine to claim fourth place in her weight class.

Scott wrestled in the 98 pound weight class for Colfax in Lewiston. He received a bye in the first two rounds before losing by fall in 1:27 to Kevin Watson of Kellogg.

After receiving two more byes, Scott would lose by fall in 1:54 to Peter Fabbi of Clearwater Valley in the consolation semifinal.

Cody Phillips scored seven team points for Colfax in the 120 pound class. He would lose by fall in the first round to Colby Valdez of Clarkston, then would receive a bye.

In both the consolation round two and three, Cody would win by fall in :30 and :37 to Parker Port of Asotin, and Bruce Mocko of Post Falls.

Cody would lose in the consolation round four match to Wayland Holmberg of Davenport.

Cooper Phillips scored six team points in the 126 pound class. After receiving a bye in the first round, he won by fall in 1:11 to Charlie Alford of Lewiston. Cooper would lose in the quarterfinal round by fall in 3:08 to Kolter Wood of Kellogg, then lost to Geoff Brooks of Post Falls by decision, 6-5.

Southern started his meet in the 145 pound division with a bye, then lost by fall in 1:17 to Estuardo Puderbaugh of Clearwater Valley.

Southern received another bye in the consolation round two before losing by fall in :47 to Zack Vian of New Plymouth.

Campbell lost by fall in 1:04 to Josiah Miller of Kellogg in the 152 pound class before receiving a bye in the next round. He finished his meet with a loss to Joel Burris of Colfax by fall in :42.

After the victory, Burris would lose by fall in :49 to Jack Mayer of Coeur d'Alene.

Steven wrestled in the 182 pound class, receiving a bye in the first round. He would then lose by fall in 4:54 to Brice Cuthbert of Lewiston.

After the loss, Steven received another bye, then lost by fall in 2:11 to Wyatt Moura of Tri-Valley.

Burd received a bye in his first round match in the 285 pound division. His first official match was a loss by fall in 1:05 to Nathan Willoughby of New Plymouth.

In the consolation round two match, Burd lost by fall in :45 to Scott Sotin of St. Maries.

Colfax wrestling will compete next on Saturday, Jan. 27, with a dual league meet in Coulee City.
