Timberwolf boys fall as Vikings are on the rise

Garfield-Palouse tied for third in district

PALOUSE - The Garfield-Palouse Vikings boys basketball team have won seven of their last eight games, including two straight against Whitman County opponents.

The most recent game for the Vikings was a match up with the Tekoa-Rosalia Timberwolves. The game was played on Saturday, Jan. 13, and took place in Tekoa.

The Vikings used a 20-point second quarter to help secure a 59-48 victory over the Timberwolves.

With the win, the Vikings are 5-2 in 1B district play, tied for third-best. The Timberwolves are 4-4 in districts, holding down seventh in districts.

The first quarter of play was 16-13 in favor of the Vikings. Lane Collier led the Vikings with six points in the first, and Kiernan Snekvik had four points.

For Tekoa-Rosalia, Isaac Bone had seven points in the quarter.

During the second quarter, the Vikings would explode for 20 points, while holding the Timberwolves to 14. The Vikings would take a 36-27 lead into the second half of play.

Collier had nine points in the second quarter alone, and Brendan Snekvik had seven.

Bone would score 12 of the 14 Timberwolf points in the second quarter, making three three-point attempts.

The Timberwolves struggled in the third quarter, scoring just eight points. The Vikings took advantage of the slow offensive quarter from Tekoa-Rosalia to score 14 points, now leading 50-35 with eight minutes remaining in the game.

The fourth quarter was the only quarter the Vikings lost, they were out-scored 9-13 by the Timberwolves, with Bone scoring eight in the fourth. Garfield-Palouse would come away with the 11-point victory over the Timberwolves, defeating Tekoa-Rosalia for the second time this season.

Collier finished with 18 points to lead the Vikings while Brendan Snekvik and Landon Orr had nine points each.

For the Timberwolves, Bone finished with 33 points. The rest of the Timberwolves scored 15 total points in the game, with six of them coming from Brian Place, and five from Ziyon Marsh.

The Vikings also played two other games in the week besides the game against their Whitman County opponent.

The Vikings took on the Asotin Panthers on Tuesday, Jan. 9, with the game taking place in Asotin.

The Panthers proved to be too big and powerful inside against the Vikings, defeating the Vikings 36-55.

Collier led the way for Garfield-Palouse with 14 points on five made field goals.

Kiernan had six points in the game, and Bryce Pfaff had nine points.

After the game against the Panthers, the Vikings took on the St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse Eagles.

The game was played on Friday, Jan. 12, and took place in Palouse.

The Vikings would defeat the Eagles by 20, earning the 61-41 victory.

Three Viking players scored 10 or more points, helping to lead the surge for Garfield-Palouse.

Collier finished with a team-high 20 points on nine made field goals, including two three-point shots.

Orr finished the game with 11 points. Pfaff was the other double-digit scorer for the Vikings, who scored 10 points in the game.

For the Vikings, 10 players scored at least two points in the game, leading an all-around offensive attack for the Vikings.

The next game for the Vikings will be played on Friday, Jan. 19, when they __take on the 1-13 Dayton Bulldogs. The game will take place in Dayton, with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m.
