Colfax wrestling takes 10th in Crusader Classic

Three wrestlers took fourth for Colfax

COLFAX - The Colfax Bulldogs boys wrestling team scored 57 total points in their most recent meet, the Crusader Classic.

The meet took place on Saturday, Jan. 13, and was in Colbert.

The Bulldogs finished in 10th place out of 16 teams who traveled to compete. First place was taken by Riverside, who scored 131 team points.

Three Bulldogs finished fourth in their respective weight classes to headline the top-point scorers for the Bulldogs.

Cody Phillips took fourth in the 120 pound division, Steven Campbell took fourth in the 175 pound division, and Tristen Burd took fourth in the 285 pound division for the Bulldogs.

Ty Scott competed in the 106 pound division for Colfax, he scored three team points.

His day started with a loss by fall in 3:54 against Cameron VanSanten of Mt. Spokane. Scott then defeated Edward Jennings of Almira-Coulee-Hartline by fall in :54 to advance to the consolation semifinal round.

In the semifinal round, Scott would lose by fall in 1:20 to Liam Fletcher of Mt. Spokane.

Cameron Mathia wrestled for Colfax in the 113 pound division, losing by fall against Hunter Coe of Riverside, Mathia then lost by fall in 3:32 against Peyton Lingo of St. Maries.

The fourth place finish from Phillips in the 120 pound division scored 11 team points. His day started with a victory by fall in :53 against Odin Oberg of East Valley.

In the semifinal round, Phillips would lose by fall in 1:16 against Jack Molitor of Almira-Coulee-Hartline.

Phillips would win his consolation semifinal round by fall in :17 against Marcus Divelbiss of Mt. Spokane.

In the third place match, Phillips would lose by decision against Waylon Rosman of Lind-Ritzville, 10-5.

Cooper Phillips scored four team points for Colfax in the 126 pound division. He started his meet with a victory by fall against Aaden Baergen of Almira-Coulee-Hartline in :26.

The semifinal round was a loss for Cooper. He fell in 5:08 to Mason James of Riverside.

The consolation semifinal round saw Cooper lose by major decision to Sam Drake of Kettle Falls, 10-2.

Dillon Gassenberg scored three team points for the Bulldogs in the 132 pound division.

Gassenberg received a bye in the first round before losing by decision to Seth Finley of Mary Walker, 10-6.

Gassenberg would win in the consolation round two match by fall in 1:10 against Garret Plemmons of Riverside. He would then lose by fall in :56 to Walker Montgomery of Garfield-Palouse.

Alton Burt competed in the 144 pound division, scoring eight team points for the Bulldogs.

After receiving a bye in the first round, Alton defeated Sawyer Nantell of St. Maries in :33.

Alton would lose in the semifinal round to Thayne Crossley of Deer Park by fall in 3:57.

Carson Kubik of Lind-Ritzville got the better of Alton, defeating him by decision, 10-4.

Austin Campbell scored one team point for the Bulldogs in the 150 pound division. He started with a bye, then lost by fall in :19 to Maddex Strobel of Liberty.

Campbell would win by decision over Ian McWalter of Almira-Coulee-Hartline, 4-2, then lose by fall in :22 to Landon Tomala of Deer Park in the consolation round three match.

Joel Burris wrestled in the 157 pound division, scoring four team points for Colfax.

Burris won by fall in 3:28 against Sean Trochta of Riverside, then would lose by fall in :23 to Joel Phillips of Northwest Christian.

In the consolation round two match, Burris would lose by major decision to Pete Spain of Lind-Ritzville, 12-2.

Steven Campbell would score 13 points for the Bulldogs after a fourth place finish in the 175 pound division.

Steven would receive a bye in the first round, then lost by fall in 3:47 to Reed Widman of Liberty.

Steven received another bye, then took down Talen Kent of Kettle Falls in 1:59.

The consolation semifinal match saw Steven win by fall in 1:20 against Mason Watt, Shirlwin of East Valley, before losing the third place match by fall in :30 to Deacon Medeiros of Kettle Falls.

Tristen Burd scored 10 team points for the Bulldogs with his fourth place finish in the 285 pound division. He started with a loss by fall in 3:01 to Julian Torres of East Valley. Tristen then would win by fall in :25 to Malachi Jaynes of Lind-Ritzville.

Burd would win by fall in :46 against Solomon Slind of Deer Park, then lose the third place match by fall in :40 to Kaden Hippler of Kettle Falls.

The next meet for the Bulldogs boys wrestling team will be Thursday, Jan. 18. The team will travel to Reardan to compete in the league meet, set to start at 5 p.m.

The Bulldogs wrestling team have a busy week ahead of them. After the meet in Reardan, the wrestling team will compete in the Clearwater Classic meet, taking place Friday, Jan. 19, in Lewiston. The meet will also be held on Saturday, Jan. 20.

On Tuesday, Jan. 23, the Bulldogs will host a meet, taking place in Colfax, starting at 5 p.m.
