Tekoa-Rosalia Girls basketball inch closer to victory

Lost to Pomeroy by three points

TEKOA - The Tekoa-Rosalia Timberwolves came close to winning this week with a dramatic loss to the Pomeroy Pirates on Friday, Jan. 5. The game was played in Tekoa, with the Timberwolves losing 41-44.

Before the Pirates, Tekoa-Rosalia took on the Colton Wildcats. The game was played Wednesday, Jan. 3, taking place in Rosalia.

Colton would dominate as they sailed to a 55-14 victory.

The Timberwolves were down 4-15 after the first quarter as they let the Wildcats loose. Hanna Douglas and Clare Wilkins each had two points for the Timberwolves in the quarter.

The second quarter was closer, with Tekoa-Rosalia scoring four again, but allowed 10 from Colton to trail by 17 at halftime.

The Timberwolves were scoring consistently throughout the game, with another four-point third quarter. Unfortunately, the Wildcats scored 19 points to lead 44-12.

Tekoa-Rosalia scored three points in the fourth as they fell by 41-points.

Kayla Eilertson scored six points to lead the Timberwolves in the game. Wilkins would finish with five.

The next game for Tekoa-Rosalia was played on Friday, Jan. 5, when they took Pomeroy the distance, before ultimately losing 41-44, a heartbreaking loss for the Timberwolves.

Tekoa-Rosalia trailed early, staring at a seven-point hole at halftime before scoring 15 points in the fourth quarter to make the game interesting, but fell by three.

The Timberwolves scored 11 points in the first quarter while allowing 12 from the Pirates. Wilkins scored four in the first, and Eilertson scored three.

Tekoa-Rosalia struggled in the second, scoring just five. The Pirates took advantage of the slow offensive quarter by the Timberwolves to score 11, leading by seven at halftime.

Pomeroy would outscore the Timberwolves 12-10 in the third quarter to give them a nine-point advantage with eight minutes to play.

The Timberwolves would not go down without a fight. They scored 15 points in the fourth quarter to storm back. Alyssa Babb scored eight points herself in the fourth, but their efforts came up short, losing by three.

Babb finished the game with 13 points to lead the Timberwolves. Eilertson scored 11, and Wilkins finished with eight.

The next game for Tekoa-Rosalia will be played Friday, Jan. 12, when the Timberwolves take on the Wildcats again. The game will be played in Colton, and is set to tip-off at 6 p.m.

Following the game against the Wildcats, Tekoa-Rosalia will host the Garfield-Palouse Vikings on Saturday, Jan. 13. The game will be played in Tekoa, and tip-off is set for 4 p.m.

The last game of the week for the Timberwolves will be Tuesday, Jan. 16. Tekoa-Rosalia will take on Cusick. The game will be played in Rosalia, and will tip-off at 6 p.m.
