Scored 43 points against University high school

COLFAX — The Colfax Bulldogs girls basketball team are back to winning ways after they took down two teams in Spokane over Christmas break to bring life back into the Bulldogs team.

The defending 2B state champions took on Timberlake on Wednesday, Dec. 27. The game was played at West Valley High School.

The Bulldogs took a lead into halftime before taking a lead into the fourth quarter. Colfax would find a way to close out the game, and won 45-42.

The first quarter saw Colfax score 13 points and allow seven to take a six-point lead.

Brynn McGaughy scored four points and had three rebounds and blocks each in the quarter to lead Colfax. Brenna Gilchrist led the way in the quarter with five points.

Colfax would score eight points in the second quarter while allowing nine from Timberlake. The Bulldogs would lead 21-16 after two. McGaughy had seven of the Bulldogs eight points in the quarter.

The third quarter was where the Bulldogs took over. Colfax scored 14 points in the quarter, led by six from McGaughy and four from Hailey Demler. Timberlake would score just eight points in the quarter.

Colfax would hang on in the fourth quarter, scoring 10 points, but giving up 18 to see Colfax win by just three in the game.

McGaughy finished with 19 points, seven rebounds, and three blocks. Demler had 11 points, eight rebounds and six steals.

Gilchrist had eight points and five steals with three assists for Colfax.

The Bulldogs had a quick turnaround for their next game. Colfax took on University on Thursday, Dec. 28. The game was played in West Valley.

Colfax would score a season-high 72 points in the game, and also gave up a season-high 63 points to the Titans.

McGaughy had a high school career high 43 points in the game. She made 16 two-point shots and two three-point shots.

The first quarter saw Colfax trailing 10-16. McGaughy scored eight points in the quarter and Ava Swan had two points.

The second quarter was where the Bulldogs exploded for 24 points. The Titans also scored 18 points in the quarter. McGaughy had 12 points and four rebounds in the quarter. She had a double-double in the first half with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Gilchrist would have 10 points in the second quarter to help propel Colfax to a 34-34 tie heading into the second half.

The third quarter was a fairly even quarter, with Colfax taking the quarter 16-14. McGaughy had 10 of the Bulldog 16 points in the quarter.

McGaughy and Lauryn York made sure the game was put away early in the fourth quarter. Colfax won the quarter by seven to take the nine-point victory.

McGaughy scored 12 points again in the fourth to finish with 43 in the game, a high school career high for her. She finished with 16 rebounds and two blocks as well.

Gilchrist finished with 16 points and five rebounds.

The next game for the Bulldogs will be Friday, Jan. 5. Colfax will take on the Jenkins (Chewelah) Cougars. The game will be played in Chewelah, and will tip-off at 6 p.m.
