Colfax girls basketball take on Lakeside and Liberty

COLFAX — The Colfax Bulldogs girls basketball team took the court just before the holiday break and went home with some losses and victory.

The Bulldogs started their week on Tuesday, Dec. 19, with a victory over the Liberty Lancers.

The Bulldogs followed up their Tuesday game, going head-to-head against the Lakeside Eagles on Thursday, Dec. 21.

The game against the Lancers saw Colfax control the tempo and flow of the game from start to finish; they scored 18 points in the first quarter, leading them to their 48-point victory.

Brynn McGaughy stole the show. McGaughy scored the most between the two teams, scoring 22 points.

Colfax scored nine points in the second quarter and 8 points in the third. The Bulldogs started the third quarter with a 35-point lead. They quickly led 35-28 before the quarter ended.

In the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs would score 13 points, ending the game with a 48-point victory for Colfax.

The Bulldogs had a quick turnaround, with a Thursday, Dec. 21, game against the Lakeside Eagles.

The Bulldogs would see the game close throughout, but ultimately, Lakeside pulled away taking the 52-37 victory.

The Eagles scored four points in the first quarter thanks to three from Rylee Darnold. However, McGaughy would answer with five points of her own to bring the Bulldogs to a five-point lead in the quarter.

Colfax would score 11 points in the second quarter but couldn’t keep up with the fire the Eagles brought to the quarter. The Eagles scored 16 and took the lead against the Bulldogs 20-16 heading into the third quarter.

Colfax scored 12 in the third quarter but Lakeside held strong with a 37-28 lead.

In the fourth, the Bulldogs would fall to the Eagles 52-37 in the fourth.
