Will use break as a way to reset before later part of season
TEKOA — The Tekoa-Rosalia girls basketball team are in a slump as they finished their third week of action with two tough losses.
The Timberwolves started the week with a heavy loss against the Liberty Christian Patriots, and followed it with a 50-point loss to the Oakesdale Nighthawks.
The game against the Liberty Christian Patriots was played on Tuesday, Dec. 12, and was in Liberty Christian.
The Timberwolves failed to reach double-digit scoring in the game, while allowing the Patriots to score 52, giving the Timberwolves a 44-point loss.
The 44-point loss was tied for the largest loss of the season so far for Tekoa-Rosalia. The other 44-point loss was the previous week, against conference opponent Garfield-Palouse.
The Timberwolves would see the large loss to the Patriots out done the following game.
Tekoa-Rosalia headed to Oakesdale to take on the Nighthawks. The game was played on Satutday, Dec. 16, and saw the Timberwolves set a new biggest season losing streak as they fell 63-13.
During the first quarter, Tekoa-Rosalia would take a timeout after trailing 6-0 halfway through the quarter. They would then trail 12-2 before the quarter ended with the Nighthawks up 17-2.
The second quarter saw the lead for the Nighthawks stretched to 23-2 before the Timberwolves got on the board. The quarter would end with Tekoa-Rosalia trailing 7-36.
The Timberwolves would score three points in both the third and fourth quarters, but allowed 27 total points from Oakesdale in the half to give Tekoa-Rosalia the 50-point loss.
Of the 13 points scored for the Timberwolves, seven of them were scored by sophomore guard Kayla Eilertson. Junior Briley Smith had two points and junior Justina Crane-Whistocken had two points for Tekoa-Rosalia.
The Timberwolves will look to bounce back from their toughest stretch of games this season with a match up against the Dayton Bulldogs. The game will be played on Friday, Dec. 22, and will take place in Rosalia. The girls game is set to start at 4 p.m.
