No festive cheer for Tekoa-Rosalia boys basketball

Back on track for season with two wins

TEKOA — After starting the season hot, the Tekoa-Rosalia boys basketball team seem to be hitting a brick wall, losing straight games in the third week of play.

The two losses are both coming after a loss to the Garfield-Palouse Vikings last week, putting the team on a three-game losing streak heading into Christmas.

The Timberwolves currently hold a 3-6 overall record.

The first game this week was a match up on Tuesday, Dec. 12, against the Liberty Christian Patriots. The game was played in Liberty Christian, and saw the Timberwolves fall just short, losing 49-55.

Tekoa-Rosalia took a 14-8 lead after one quarter, with Isaac Bone scoring nine of those points.

The game got away from the Timberwolves in the second quarter, as the Patriots scored 25 points while giving up just 14 to the Timberwolves. Tekoa-Rosalia trailed 28-33 heading into halftime.

Coming out of the break, the Timberwolves would lose the quarter 15-13, with the Patriots extending their lead to seven with a quarter to play.

Tekoa-Rosalia would hold the Patriots to seven points in the fourth quarter, but scored just eight as the team fell by six in the game.

“They played a good game. We struggled with foul trouble and they were able to capitalize in the second quarter,” said Tekoa-Rosalia head coach Mike Bone.

Issac Bone would

finish with 27 points in the game on 29 shot attempts with 11 makes for the Timberwolves.

Thomas Place and Vanden Allen each had seven points for Tekoa-Rosalia in the game.

The next game for the Timberwolves was Saturday, Dec. 16, when they traveled to Oakesdale to take on the Nighthawks.

The game was a tight one, with the teams tied late in the first half, but the Nighthawks would pull away in the end, defeating the Timberwolves 54-37.

The Timberwolves would take a two-point lead heading into the second quarter, they outscored the Nighthawks 11-9 in the quarter.

The second quarter saw the Nighthawks scored nine points again, and held the Timberwolves to five points to take the 18-16 lead.

This time around, the third quarter was the downfall for the Timberwolves in the game. Oakesdale scored 29 points in the quarter while allowing 11 from Tekoa-Rosalia.

The Timberwolves could not complete the comeback in the fourth, and fell by 17 to Oakesdale.

“I felt we played a good defensive first half. The third quarter we made some mistakes and they did a good job of capitalizing on those mistakes,” said Coach Bone.

Issac Bone would finish with 22 points and 12 rebounds.

Allen had nine points and five rebounds with four assists.

The next game for the Timberwolves will be played on Friday, Dec. 22. The Timberwolves will travel to Valley Christian, with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m.
