Colton shines against Dayton

COLTON — Both the girls and boys basketball programs of the Colton Wildcats dominated their third week of play, sweeping the Dayton Bulldogs.

The games were played on Saturday, Dec. 16, and took place in Colton.

The girls started their game at 3:30 p.m., followed by the boys, who started at 5 p.m.

The girls game was put away early, as they won their match up 66-21, a 45-point victory for the Wildcats.

The Colton boys team then followed suit, defeating the Bulldogs 48-42.

For the girls, they took total control of the game and tempo, out scoring the Bulldogs by 45-points total.

The 66 points scored by the Wildcats girls is their fourth time in five games this season the Wildcats have scored 60 or more points.

With the win, the girls are 5-0 on the season, an undefeated start before Christmas is their best start since the 2018-19 season, when the team started 8-0, eventually winning the state championship.

For the boys team, their match up with the Bulldogs was closer than the girls, but Colton squeezed out the six-point win.

Colton head coach Brad Jenkins acknowledged the Dayton Bulldogs, saying they, “held off a ferocious comeback from the Bulldogs.”

In the game, Tanner Baerlocher had 24 points to lead Colton.

Matt Reisenauer had 17 points as well.

As a team, the Wildcats had 24 rebounds, eight assists, and seven steals.

The next action for both the boys and girls teams will be Wednesday, Dec. 27. Both the boys and girls are hosting a three-day basketball tournament in Colton. The boys will play Deary at 5 p.m. and the girls will play Genesee at 6:30 p.m. to start play.
