Colfax boys stuff stockings with perfect 6-0 start

Tied for first in district with St. George's

COLFAX - The Colfax Bulldogs boys basketball team are addicted to winning. The team has six wins on the season with no losses, their best start since the 2007-08 season, when the team won their first eight games.

The team has only had two losing seasons in the last 15 seasons, but have never made it past five wins in a row to start a season before the 2007-08 season until now.

Last week, the Bulldogs took down the Asotin Panthers at home, then traveled to Lind-Ritzville, to take on the Broncos.

The game against Asotin was played on Friday, Dec. 15, and was played in Colfax.

The Bulldogs would see the game become close for the first half, then the Bulldogs exploded in the second half to win 81-41.

During the first quarter the Bulldogs would lead 6-5 before calling a timeout to regroup. The quarter would end with the Bulldogs on top 12-10.

The second quarter saw a 15-14 score line before Colfax called another timeout. After the timeout, they went on a 16-8 run to extend their lead, with the halftime score 34-23 in favor of Colfax.

The Bulldogs came out in the third quarter and scored 26 points, while allowing eight to put the game away.

For good measure, Colfax added 21 points in the fourth quarter to secure the 40-point victory.

Seth Lustig finished with 20 points. He scored six in the first, five in the second, and eight in the third quarter.

JP Wigen finished with 10 points, and Jayce Kelly had 22 points, 11 of those coming in the third quarter.

After the Panthers game, the Bulldogs traveled to take on the Broncos. The game was played on Saturday, Dec. 16, and was in Lind-Ritzville.

The Bulldogs dominated from tip-off, scoring 71 points in the game while giving up just 36 points to earn their sixth win of the season.

With the win, the Bulldogs are tied for first in the district with St. George's, who hold a 5-0 conference record.

The next game for Colfax will be played on Thursday, Dec. 21. Colfax will travel to Lakeside to take on Lakeside (9 mile). Tip-off is set for 7:15 p.m.
