Colton girls start perfect

Wildcats dunk Highland, then Touchet Redhawks

COLTON - The Colton Wildcats girls basketball team are picking up where they left off last season, opening this year's season with two wins of more than 40 points.

Last season, the team entered the WIAA 1B state basketball tournament as the No. 3 seed.

Their first game of the season was played Friday, Dec. 1, against the Highland Huskies in Craigmont, Idaho.

The Wildcats would dominate the game, taking a 67-25 victory.

The Huskies failed to score more than 10 points in any of the four quarters.

Colton Coach Clark Vining said he is proud of the team's ball movement.

Kyndra Stout had 25 points in the game for the Wildcats and Kaydee Heitstuman made three 3-point shots.

The next game for the Wildcats was their home-opener Saturday, Dec. 2, against the Touchet Redhawks.

Colton won, 68-16.

In the first quarter, the Wildcats would lead 14-4 before Touchet took a timeout. The quarter ended with a 19-4 Colton lead.

The second quarter saw the Wildcats score 24 points, while allowing just 2; Colton took a 43-6 halftime lead.

In the third quarter, added 12 to the margin, as they scored 13 and allowed the Redhawks a single point.

The Wildcats closed the fourth quarter with a 12-9 scoring advantage to take the 52-point victory.

Stout had 19 points in the game with five 3-point shots. Kaydee had 13 points.

Leah Musson had 11 and Rori Weber added 12 to give the Wildcats four double-digit scorers.

Vining said he is happy with the team as a whole in their second dominating victory.

The Wildcat girls next take the court at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8.

During the 2022-23 season, the Wildcat girls basketball team went 20-3 overall.

They started the season winning four-straight before falling in their fifth game.

The team would then go on a 16-game winning streak.

Their next two losses were both in the WIAA 1B state championship tournament.

This year's team is looking to earn a trophy in the state Hardwood Classic tournamwent.
