Suspected vehicle prowlers fire weapon at homeowner

COLFAX — The Whitman County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a weapons offense on Wednesday, Nov. 22, at approximately 7:15 a.m. in the 4000 block of Nelson Road, five miles north of Palouse.

According to a press release from Thursday, Nov. 23, the incident was reported to deputies by the homeowner, who saw a small, dark, colored four-door passenger vehicle arrive at his residence and four individuals entered the property, prowling his vehicles.

Reports say the homeowner then followed the suspect vehicle for approximately a mile before an occupant of the vehicle fired several shots toward the homeowner’s vehicle, causing him to discontinue his pursuit and contact law enforcement.

According to reports, the suspect vehicle was last seen driving west towards SR 27.

During the investigation, deputies found evidence to confirm the suspect individuals were attempting to steal from the property and evidence of a weapon used while fleeing from the homeowner, states the report.

Reports state that deputies are continuing their investigation and following leads to identify responsible persons.
