Two Eagle volleyball seniors nationally recognized

Earned AVCA Best and Brightest First Team Honors

ST. JOHN — Two standout St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse Eagle volleyball players have received nationally recognized awards for their performance on the court, as well as in the classroom.

Senior setter Julia Guske and senior outside Kaitlyn Hough are two of 1,110 high school girl senior athletes recognized nationally.

The awards are given by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). This is the third year the AVCA has distributed this award.

To earn the AVCA Best and Brightest award, qualifying high school girl seniors must have at least a 3.5 unweighted/4.0 weighted GPA during their junior year, as well as have played in at least 50% of the teams varsity sets during the junior season.

There are three tiers to the award that athletes can receive.

AVCA Best and Brightest First team is given to athletes with a 3.8 unweighted/4.3 weighted GPA and above, second team is 3.65 unweighted/4.15 weighted, and third team is 3.5 unweighted/4.0 weighted GPA.

Both Guske and Hough received the AVCA Best and Brightest First Team award.

“Huge accomplishment to be nationally recognized for their classroom achievements! They are not only spectacular athletes, but their hard work and dedication in the classroom shows why they will make great leaders on and off the court. I am so proud of them!” said Eagles Volleyball Head Coach Jenn Johnson.
