Four Bulldog volleyball players receive All-League honors

Three received first-team award, one received Co-MVP

COLfAX - At the conclusion of the 2B volleyball regular season, four Bulldog athletes were recognized at the All-League awards ceremony.

MVP this year was given to two athletes. Zoe Galbreath of the Broncos and Lauryn York of the Bulldogs were Co-MVP's of the league this season.

For first team, 11 athletes were recognized, including three Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs who received first-team All-League honors were: Ava Swan, Hailey Demler, and Brenna Gilchrist.

York, in her senior season was a leader for the Bulldogs all year. She ran the offense out of the setter position, and helped Swan, Demler and Gilchrist shine offensively.

"Lauryn has done a great job leading the team this year as the setter. She has really stepped up in dividing the sets as needed between hitters to keep them all involved and our offense efficient," said Colfax head coach Megan Dorman.

Swan was the heart and soul of the offense for the Bulldogs. Whenever the team was in a jam and needed points, they looked to Swan, who always produced.

"Ava has made a huge jump from last year to this year. She is hitting hard and playing aggressively," said Dorman.

For Demler, she had a consistent season from start-to-finish. Her offensive play and defensive effort led to her first-team selection.

"Hailey has really come on strong with her hitting this year. She is moving her hits around and getting smarter with placement," Dorman said.

Gilchrist was a solid option as a hitter in the outside position for Colfax. She showed solid offensive play, as well as being an elite passer and defensive player, giving the Bulldogs the spark they need, which helped start the offense for the Bulldogs.

"Brenna's biggest contributions are with her SR (serve receive) passing and her presence in the middle of the back row. She brings a lot of intensity to our defense and works hard to pick up all the balls in her area," Dorman said.

The awards were given out before the district championship game, which was played on Thursday, Oct. 26, where the Bulldogs defeated the Lind-Ritzville-Sprague Broncos.

There were awards given out for: Coach of the year, MVP, first and second team, as well as honorable mentions.

Coach of the year was awarded to Cari Galbreath of Lind-Ritzville-Sprague.
