County Teams show out at Cross Country Regionals

Several runners move on to State meet

CHEWELAH - The Chewelah Golf Course saw their grounds filled with athletes from 22 different schools in the 1B/2B Regional Cross Country meet.

The meet took place on Friday, Oct. 27.

On the day, there were boys and girls 5k races.

The first race of the day was the girls race. The overall winner was Josie Wynecoop of Davenport. She took first overall with a run of 20:16.15.

The highest finishing Whitman County runner was Ashleigh Hightree of the Garfield-Palouse Vikings. She took fifth with a run of 21:09.39.

Close behind Hightree was her teammate Lola Edwards, who took sixth with 21:26.72.

The Vikings girls also took ninth and 10th on the day. Ninth place was freshman Arabella Sievers, who ran 21:59.11, and 10th was Courage Hightree, who raced in 22:00.49.

Sophomore Charlotte Marshall took 20th with a time of 23:42.20.

23rd place in the event was HettyLee Laughary of Garfield-Palouse, who ran 23:51.07.

Ainsley Sievers rounded out the Vikings girls runners with her time of 30:20.03, good for 57th overall.

The Colton Wildcats only girl finisher was sophomore Rori Weber, taking 24th with her time of 24:07.08.

The Colfax Bulldogs had four girl runners participate in the regionals tournament.

Gabby Rabaiotti took 34th with her time of 26:30.97, and 35th place was senior Destiny Nelson. Her race time was 26:31.99.

Sophomore Queenie Mayer took 56th on the day with her race of 29:44.90.

Paige Eads would finish 60th for Colfax, running her time in 32:36.98.

For the St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse Eagles, their lone runner was sophomore Keira Maloney, she took 47th overall with her time of 28:23.05.

In the boys race, the overall winner was Benjamin Morales of St. George's. He took first with his time of 16:34.38.

The Vikings again had the highest finishing boys runners on the day. Brendan Snekvik took fourth overall with his run of 17:14.86.

Kieran Snekvik took sixth with his run of 17:19.02.

Isaiah Hightree took 23rd overall on the day for the Vikings with his run of 18:42.61.

Ayden Bassler finished 37th overall after running 19:20.73.

Sophomore Liam Cook took 42nd for Garfield-Palouse with his time of 19:40.61.

The Vikings had two final runners on the day. Freshman Ethan Lawson finished 48th, and freshman Gage Adams finished 103rd with his run of 24:39.27.

For the Eagles, their highest finishing runner was William Tollett, who finished 84th overall after he ran his race in 22:10.44.

David Logen also finished 108th for the Eagles with his run of 25:28.46.

The Colton Wildcats top finisher was sophomore Tanner Baerlocher, taking 12th overall with his run of 18:04.43.

66th place was taken by Wyatt Baysinger, finishing in 21:13.29.

Eighth grader Brenna Schlee took 71st overall after running 21:20.89.

The Wildcats took 85th and 86th in the race. Loren Heitstuman and Ryan Impson were the 85th and 86th finishers for the Wildcats.

Eighth grader Jake Moehrle finished 96th, and Joey Heimghaus finished 115th for the Wildcats with his run of 31:36.72.

The Colfax Bulldogs had two finishers on the day. Keagan Mackleit finished 110th for Colfax with his run of 25:54.96. Brandon Pingle finished 114th with his time of 27:06.00.

The last cross country meet of the season will be the WIAA Sate Cross Country Championship meet.

The race will take place Saturday, Nov. 4, and will be at the Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco.

Whitman County athletes for the Vikings on the girls side who will compete in the state meet will be: Ashleigh Hightree, Lola Edwards, Courage Hightree, Arabella Sievers, Charlotte Marshall, HettyLee Laughary, and Ainsley Sievers. The Vikings are the only Whitman County school to have girl athletes running in the meet.

The Vikings will have seven boys runners compete. They are: Brendan Snekvik, Kieran Snekvik, Ayden Bassler, Isaiah Hightree, Ethan Lawson, Liam Cook and Gage Adams.

The Colton Wildcats are the only other Whitman County team to have an athlete running on the day. Their lone athlete is Tanner Baerlocher.
