Vikings football stay hot with home win on senior night

Defeated Waitsburg with strong first half showing

PALOUSE — Senior night in Palouse saw the Garfield-Palouse Vikings recognize their lone senior before the game.

Senior Colton Pfaff was recognized by the team and school as the lone senior for the Vikings. He was acknowledged by his family and teammates with presents and a round of applause pre game.

After the festivities concluded, the Vikings settled in to their football game, which was played on Friday, Oct. 20, against the Waitsburg Cardinals.

The Vikings would jump out to a quick lead before halftime, and use that momentum to hold on in the second half, and earn the 60-34 victory.

In the first quarter of the game, the Vikings would start by completing a fourth and five conversion, before Kaleb Kelnhofer found the endzone with a two-yard touchdown run to see the Vikings lead 6-0.

After a three-and-out from Waitsburg, the Vikings got the football back, and would record a huge 40-yard passing play, but the Viking receiver would drop the ball on his own, and lost possession to Waitsburg.

Luckily for the Vikings, the Cardinals threw an interception on the very next play to set the Vikings up with great field possession.

The Vikings took advantage, and Bryce Pfaff scored a three-yard quarterback keeper to lead 14-0 as the first quarter ended.

In the second quarter, Macent Rardon caught a 37-yard touchdown pass to lead 22-0 one minute into the second quarter.

With five minutes left in the half, Lane Collier had a 22-yard touchdown catch and run for the Vikings, who now lead 30-0.

Collier then would score another touchdown, this time a 51-yard catch and run to lead 36-0 with two minutes left.

The Cardinals scored their lone touchdown of the half just before the quarter ended, but headed into the locker room down 36-8.

Coming out of the break the Cardinals had a strong showing, scoring 26 points, but allowed 24 points from the Vikings to close out the 60-34 victory.

With the win, the Vikings move to 6-2 on the season with one game to play.

The final game of the season for the Vikings will be Friday, Nov. 3, as the Vikings take on the Dayton Bulldogs.

The game will be played in Dayton, and will kick off at 7 p.m.
