Garfield-Palouse Homecoming in Full Swing

PALOUSE - Homecoming is in the air at Garfield-Palouse (GAR-PAL) high school, and events are set to take place throughout the week.

The Vikings volleyball Homecoming game was played Tuesday, Oct. 3, against the Pomeroy Pirates.

The game was played in Palouse.

After winning the first set, the Vikings would lose two straight to fall behind 2-1. They would take the fourth set, but lose to fifth set to lose the game overall.

The set scores for the game were: 25-21, 18-25, 21-25, 25-13, 3-15.

In the first set, the Vikings rallied to an early 8-1 lead before a Pomeroy timeout.

After the timeout, the Vikings flew out to a 16-3 lead.

Pomeroy clawed their way back to 24-21, but lost the set 25-21.

The second set was dominant from the Pirates, with strong serving to take the second set victory.

More of the same in the third set for Pomeroy. Their serving game was tough for the Vikings to stop, and they could not keep up, losing the third set.

Cheered on by the Vikings fans, student section, bench, and head coach Genna Bessey, the Vikings took the fourth set to send the game to a fifth.

This time, the Vikings were aggressive on their serves.

In the fifth set, the Vikings gassed out, and quickly fell to the Pirates to lose the homecoming game.

Cross Country

The GAR-PAL cross country team will be traveling to Lewiston the morning of Saturday, Oct. 7, to compete in the Inland Empire Challenge.

The meet will see boys and girls run a 2,500 m race.

Football

For football, The Vikings Homecoming game is Friday, Oct. 6, against Touchet.

On the season, the Vikings are currently 3-2. Their last game was a 58-14 loss against Liberty Christian.

The last win for the Vikings came on Friday, Sept. 22, a 62-0 victory over Sunnyside Christian.

The Vikings are currently ranked 21st in the state for the 1B division, according to the WIAA rankings.

Touchet is currently ranked 23rd.

Touchet currently has a record of 2-3 on the season. Their two wins were a 93-32 victory over Sunnyside Christian, and a 53-22 victory over St. John-Endicott-LaCrosse.

The Redhawks are currently trending down, they are on a two-game losing streak, including a 46-6 loss in their most recent outing against Pomeroy.

The game Friday, Oct. 6, against the Touchet Redhawks will kick off at 7 p.m.

The game will be played in Palouse.
