Colfax Bulldogs volleyball win out during week two

COLFAX — The Colfax Bulldogs started their second week of volleyball action with an away game in Spangle on Sept. 12, and a home game.

The Bulldogs had their first of three games last week against Upper Columbia Academy. The game was played in Spangle.

The game saw the Bulldogs notch their first win of the season, sweeping the Lions in three straight sets.

The first set saw Colfax convincingly take the 25-14 victory. The second set was 25-17 in favor of the Bulldogs, and the third and final set was 25-16 for the Bulldogs.

This was the Bulldogs first win of the season, and comes right before the Bulldogs start a string of three-straight non-conference games.

In this game, Ava Swan led the way for the Bulldogs. She had a team-leading 10 kills, six aces, 11 digs, and two blocks.

Hailey Demler had nine kills, four aces, and eight digs as well for the Bulldogs.

Setter Lauryn York had 19 assists to go along with nine digs in the game.

Another point of note in the game was Hope Fulfs, who went 17/18 serving in the game. She also had four kills and eight digs.

The second game was played Sept. 14 and marked the first home match for the Bulldogs season hosting the Clarkston Bantams.

“The girls were excited to be at home. The whole atmosphere is great with the community coming out to support us,” said Colfax head coach Megan Dorman.

The Bulldogs jumped on the Bantams early, and used strong offensive hitting to sweep the Bantams.

The first set was a back-and-forth game, with the first timeout in the game seeing Clarkston hold the 10-9 lead.

After locking at 13, the Bulldogs would go on a five point run before Clarkston called their timeout.

Colfax kept Clarkston in the set with service errors, but finished strong, and took the first set 25-21.

The second set saw Colfax fly to an 8-0 lead, pushing it to 10 before Clarkston scored.

The Bantams would make a run, pushing to a 17-12 deficit before Colfax called a timeout.

After the timeout, the Bulldogs were in total control, and took the second set 25-15.

The third set had Colfax up 14-10 halfway through the set before increasing to a 19-15 lead.

The Bantams would then score two straight points to trail by two.

After a Bulldog timeout, Colfax scored three straight points, then pushed to victory, 25-22.

“I think that we played well. We raised our energy and the tempo of the match,” said Dorman.

In the game, Demler led the way with 13 kills and 14 digs. York had 22 assists for the Bulldogs, and Fulfs had three blocks.

The next home game for the Bulldogs will be Thursday, Sept. 21, against the Lind-Ritzville-Sprague Broncos. The game will be played in Colfax, and is set to start at 6:30 p.m.
