Suspect flees scene from Pullman Police Department

Man charged with assault and other offenses

PULLMAN — Ethan Nash, 31, of Pullman, was booked into the Whitman County Jail for Unlawful Imprisonment, Assault 4th Degree, and Obstructing a Law Enforcement Officer on Thursday, Sept.14.

Nash is held through Whitman County Superior Court on a $20,000 bond or $2,000 cash bail. He currently has an active warrant for his arrest in Texas.

Pullman Police Department reports that at 9:16 a.m., WHITCOM emergency was dispatched to a physical domestic dispute occurring on East Main Street and South East Spring Street.

The witness at the scene, Youki Yamasaki, advised that Nash was allegedly seen to have been beating a female, later identified as Jessica Martin.

Upon arriving at the scene, seven Pullman officers pursued Nash, who was on foot, fleeing from the scene.

“I ordered Nash to stop and advised him he would be tased if he did not stop. Nash slowly kept moving across the creek, forcing Sergeant Gordon to get into the water and eventually detain Nash,” said responding officer Ryan McNannay.

Yamasaki reported to officers that he witnessed Nash and Martin in the middle of a dispute. He said Nash was aggressively grabbing at Martin, who was trying to get away from Nash.

“Yamasaki described it as aggressive shoulder and full body grabbing,” said McNannay.

Reports say that Yamasaki said he saw Nash “throwing fists” and thought he saw Nash hit Martin.

When officers spoke to Martin about the allegations, she said she had been arguing with Nash all morning. However, she did not consider what Nash did to be an assault.

Video surveillance from nearby was taken into evidence, which did show Nash restraining Martin.

“I spoke with Nash, who denied punching Martin as Yamasaki had described,” said McNannay. “Nash admitted to hugging or grabbing ahold of Martin. Nash said that he was trying to talk to Martin and had grabbed her because he was concerned as she was pregnant and she may be kidnapped.”

According to reports, Nash said he ran from Sergeant Gordon due to a non-extraditable warrant from Texas and not because of the dispute with Martin.
