Colfax School District purchases new bus

School board opts for more expensive bus due to mechanical service options

COLFAX — The Colfax School Board held a meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 12, in which they decided to take a higher-priced bid for a bus.

Superintendent Jerry Pugh said that they bid for a bus each year, and different bus companies give the board bids on their buses. The bus companies will list all the amenities on the bus, and what they provide.

Pugh said they chose to purchase the bus at $161.770.21, “There’s about a $2,100 difference between the two bids,” he said.

Pugh said that this year, the Colfax School District Transportation Director Tracy Imler opted for a higher-priced bid, so he had to write a letter explaining why that bus was the one to pick.

“The main reason for choosing the IC bus is service,” Imler said in his letter to the school board.

“The IC group is very responsive, and is quick to get here,” Pugh said, noting that Imler’s main focus was picking a company that would be more timely in coming out to service the bus.

In Imler’s letter to the board, he said that with the current buses, he has had to ask the Bluebird Bus Company multiple times to send someone from their service department to take care of warranty work.

“That was over a year ago,” he said in the letter, noting that he has not had anyone call him back since.

Pugh said purchasing the IC bus ensured they had good mechanical service and prompt help. “The IC group is best for that.”

With the IC bus, the school board is certain they’ll have mechanical assistance, customer service, and a better response time.
