WSU Cougars athletics sees wins across the board

Cougs come out of the gates swinging this season

PULLMAN — The women’s volleyball and soccer teams for Washington State University (WSU) both rose in rankings after a perfect week from both teams.

The WSU football team also received one vote for ranking in the top-25, but need more wins to move up. They started their season winning 50-24 against the Colorado State Rams Saturday, Sept. 2.

The volleyball team had three games over the weekend, winning all three of them. They started their streak Friday, Sept. 1 against Northwestern State, winning all three sets, 25-13, 25-11, 25-11. Their next game was Friday evening against Drake University. This game went four sets, with WSU taking the first, second, and fourth set to win the match, 25-16, 25-22, 17-25, 25-16.

The last game of the weekend was Saturday, Sept. 2, against Tulsa. WSU would sweep Tulsa in straight sets, 25-18, 25-15, 25-16.

Coming up, WSU has a tough weekend. Wednesday, Sept. 6, will see WSU take on University of California, Irvine at 6 p.m. On Thursday, Sept. 7, WSU will take on Towson University at 8 p.m. Then, WSU will close out the weekend with a game against No. 8 ranked Brigham Young University (BYU) on Friday, Sept 8, at 8 p.m.

Also over the weekend the WSU soccer team will have two more home matches. The first match will be Thursday, Aug. 7, as WSU hosts Saint Mary’s at 7 p.m. On Sunday, Sept. 10, WSU will host the Kansas Jayhawks at 1 p.m. at The Lower Soccer Field.
