Fred Andrew Appel

Loving husband, father, and brother, Fred Andrew Appel of Estill Springs, TN, passed away on August 30, 2023, after a short battle with lung cancer.

Fred was born on February 8, 1943, to Donald and Edna Appel in Colfax, Washington. After Fred graduated from Colfax High School in 1961, he went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in both Electrical and Mechanical Engineering at Washington State University. He then proceeded to earn a Master of Science in Industrial Engineering at Purdue University. After the completion of his master's degree, he served as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy at the U.S. Naval Repair Base San Diego. After the Navy, Fred started an impressive 40-year career in manufacturing and operations leadership.

In 1967, Fred married Janet Lee Baker in Vancouver, Washington. Fred and Janet went on to have 4 sons, Andrew, Brian, Glenn, and Dennis. Fred's life revolved around being a husband and father which he loved.

In 2007, Fred retired and spent time with family at his lake house in Estill Springs, volunteering at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, participating in the Knights of Columbus, and rooting for the Nashville Predators as an inaugural and annual season ticket holder.

Fred is survived by his wife, Janet of 56 years, his four sons and their wives, Andrew and Teresa, Brian and Laurie, Glenn, and Dennis and Mei; his ten grandchildren, Matthew, Jason, Katherine, Ashley, Zachary, David, Owen, Sophia, Mackenzie, and Aidan; as well as his eight siblings, Dick, Dave, Tony, Donna, Colleen, Steve, Laurette, and Renata.

A visitation for Fred's family and friends will be held on Wednesday, September 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Decherd, TN. And a funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 14 at 10:30 a.m. at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church followed by a luncheon at 11 a.m. at the Moore Cortner Funeral Home in Decherd, TN.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the Knights of Columbus.
