Janice Elaine McKay, 85, of Colfax, Wash.,

passed away August 11, 2023, at the Courtyard

Assisted Living in Colfax.

Janice was born February 10, 1938, in

Endicott, Wash., to Clanton & Elma (Fowler)

Eccles. She grew up in Hooper, Wash., on

the family farm that her great-grandparents

homesteaded in 1896. She attended grade school

in Hooper. Janice graduated from LaCrosse High

School in 1956 and was the Salutatorian. She

attended Washington State College (WSU), and

it was there she met William "Bill" McKay.

The couple married on August 24, 1957, in

Pullman, Wash. They made their home in Palouse,

Wash., where she began raising the family while

Bill taught school and coached. They later moved

to Moses Lake for a bit then on to Ellensburg,

Wash., in 1963, thus the family brand rafter 63,

where they owned and operated a cattle ranch

for 11 years. In 1974, the family moved back to

the Eccles family farm which they operated for

30 years. Janice moved to Colfax following Bill's

death.

She was a wonderful quilter. Other activities

she enjoyed were sewing and working both

jigsaw puzzles and crossword puzzles. Janice

also enjoyed reading, gardening, cooking, and

baking. Janice's family was especially important

to her. She genuinely enjoyed spending time

with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren

whenever it was possible. Janice was a member

of the Methodist Church, The Alpha Gamma Delta

Sorority, The Athenaeum Club, and The Hooper

Woman's Quilting Club.

Janice is survived by her two sons Mark (Amy)

McKay of LaCrosse, Wash., and Mike McKay

of Wenatchee, Wash; her grandchildren Talia,

Chelsea, Cass, Abby, Ben, and Mason, as well as

two great-grandchildren Finn & Clare. In addition

to her husband, Janice was preceded in death by

her daughter Julie Lynn (McKay) Gerondale, her

parents and a brother Gary Eccles.

A memorial service will be held later. Corbeill
