WSU Week of Welcome kicking off

PULLMAN - Washington State University (WSU) is set to start school Monday, August 21.

Before school can kick off, WSU will hold their "Week of Welcome", a week long event that has different activities each day geared towards new freshman and transfer students to the school, welcoming them to the university.

The start date for the event will be Saturday, August 12, and will have events each day until Saturday, August 19.

Students are highly encouraged to attend any event they wish.

Signature events highlighted as top events throughout the week are as follows:

Student Employment Fair, Tuesday, August 15. This event will take place from 1-3 p.m. The event is at the Glenn Terrell Mall and is open to anyone who wants to check out different booths on the mall in search of a job while in college. People can find full-time, part-time, and other jobs at this event by talking to employers.

Pep Rally and New Coug photo, Wednesday, August 16. This event welcomes all first year students to attend from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Martin Stadium. The Pep Rally is an introduction to everything that WSU has to offer. Attendees will be introduced to the WSU spirit squad, WSU athletic teams, Cougar Marching Band, and mascot Butch.

Academic College Kickoff, Thursday, August 17. This event will take place from 2-4 p.m. and is aimed to develop a relationship between first-year students and the academic colleges at WSU. Should students know what they will want to major in, this can be a great opportunity to learn the faces of the college of choice.

Playfair, Thursday, August 17. This event takes place at Mooberry Track, and is from 6:30-8 p.m. It is for first-year students. It is an entertaining and fun event to get out and get active. Make sure to bring athletic shoes if attending the event, and bring fluids for hydration if the weather is warm.

University Convocation, Friday, August 18. This event takes place from 10-11 a.m. at Beasley Coliseum. This event is also for first-year students. Speakers at the event will include faculty, sophomore student speaker, and WSU Pullman Chancellor. This event welcomes students to the University and campus, as well as teaching first-year students everything offered at WSU.

All-Campus Picnic Fair and Resource Fair, Friday, August 18. The All-Campus Picnic and Resource Fair will take place following the University Convocation. It will be from 11-2 p.m. and take place on the Glenn Terrell Mall. This event is open to all students, faculty, and staff. This event is the major highlight of the Week of Welcome. This is an all-campus BBQ meal to all students, faculty, and staff, as well as a huge information/resource fair. Individuals at the event can earn discounts and food and goods stores at this event, as well as sign up for clubs or other activities on campus.

CougGlow Dance Party, Saturday, August 19. One of the final events of the Week of Welcome is the CougGlow dance party, taking place from 8-11:30 p.m. in the Senior Cub Ballroom. This event is open to all students. There will be a live DJ at the event to celebrate the start of the new semester and school year. The intention of the party is also for students to introduce themselves to other students in their grade, or other grades to form connections that can last a lifetime
