Whitman County Gazette to receive General Excellence award

COLFAX – The Whitman County Gazette staff will be receiving numerous awards during the 2023 Better Newspaper Contest gala celebration in October.

The Washington Newspaper Publishers Association announced the award winners Thursday, July 27. The awards recognized outstanding work in journalism between April 1, 2022, and March 31, 2023.

The Gazette as a whole will receive a General Excellence award, which recognizes the Top 3 newspapers in the state, based on size.

Individual staffers also will also receive awards for reporting and photography.

Reporters Olivia Harnack, Teren Kowatsch and Teresa Simpson have been named as individual award-winners, as have General Manager Justin Slayton and Owner/Publisher Roger Harnack

Their exact awards will be unveiled during a gala celebration Saturday night, Oct. 7, during the 136th annual WNPA Convention.
