Whitman County organizations receive $10,000 grants

COLFAX —Two Whitman County programs received $10,000 grants from Lewis Clark Valley Healthcare Foundation through its third round of fast-track small grant awards for Community Wellness.

Whitman Hospital and Medical Clinics received the Community Wellness and Pullman Community Gardens (PCG) grant at Koppel Farm for their Capital Improvement.

Director of Therapy Services at Whitman Hospital and Medical Clinics, Krista Jones, stated that applying for the grant for Fall Prevention and Move It, or Lose It, as well as programs in the Sportsmetrics, including the therapy offices ACL Injury Prevention Program, Lymphedema Garments, and Aquatic Exercise in the hospital’s therapy pool was a team effort.

“Bonnie Kirkpatrick and Drew Hosbauer were instrumental in providing information that allowed us to get the grant,” Jones said.

Jones explained that the grant allows them to keep the programs running and helps those who want to participate in some programs who may need some financial assistance.

“A lot about wellness is providing access to do them,” Jones said, adding that they’re also excited to provide Lymphedema garments to people who may not be able to afford them.

“We’re just really grateful we can do this,” Jones said, stating that they appreciate the Lewis and Clark Valley Foundation.

The WHMC therapy team plans to start new programs and enhance the ones they have with the grant money.

Executive Vice President and Chief Wealth Management Officer of Idaho Trust Bank, Desiree Prohaska, stated that while the fast-track small grant season is closed, the Foundation’s larger impact grant season is currently open and accepting applications.

Applications to the grants are available on the Foundation’s website, lewisclarkhealth.org, and are intended for requests up to $100,000.

Priority projects include a commitment to long-term vision and projects that address the root causes that affect health, improve wellness, and help prevent disease.

The deadline to submit an impact grant application is Monday, July 31.
