STEPTOE — Ryan Martin, 48, of Moses Lake, and Daniel Curtis, 56, of Ritzville, were flown via Life-Flight to Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane with serious injuries following a tandem motorcycle crash near Steptoe Butte on Sunday, July 23.

Reports say that one of the injured motorcyclists appeared to have a broken arm and minor abrasions.

The Whitman County Sheriff’s Office states that the other motorcyclist had suspected head, back, and neck injuries, along with possible broken ribs and minor abrasions.

Deputies and Emergency Medical Service (EMS) personnel responded to a report of a crash involving the two motorcycles near the entrance to Steptoe Butte State Park on Hume Road on Sunday afternoon.

Upon arrival, deputies located the involved drivers and their motorcycles off the roadway in a ditch on the side of the road.

Based on initial findings, the two motorcycles were traveling in tandem when the outside motorcycle’s driver turned into the inside motorcycle’s driver, causing the collision. As a result, the drivers and their motorcycles ended up veering off the roadway into the ditch.

Both drivers were wearing helmets at the time of the collision.
