Kiwanis Club hosts 15th annual "Stuff the Bus"

COLFAX — The Colfax Kiwanis Club is gearing up for its 15th annual “Stuff the Bus” school supplies drive, scheduled to take place from August 10-12 in the Colfax Rosauers’s parking lot.

The event will run for three days, with specific drop-off times: August 10 from 2 pm to 5 pm, August 11 from 10 am to 5 pm, and August 12 from 10 am to 3 pm.

This event aims to collect essential school supplies to support students in need as they prepare for the upcoming academic year.

The “Stuff the Bus” initiative has been a collaborative effort between the Colfax, Moscow, and Pullman Kiwanis Clubs in the past, however, this year the Colfax chapter has taken the lead.

Colfax Kiwanis chapter Service Project Manager Sara Golden said that the drive aims to totally fulfill the town’s needs.

Golden expressed, “We’d love to see where we have enough contributions from the community where parents won’t have to buy supplies.”

The club representative stated that they are accepting both school supplies and monetary donations, which will be utilized to purchase additional school items for the drive.

Golden ensured that all contributions made during the drive will remain within the Colfax community.

“Everything stays in Colfax,” said Golden, “Everything we take goes directly from our hands to the teachers’.”

The drive has garnered support from longstanding contributors and businesses in the community, with Golden mentioning the Libey family as significant supporters.

Colfax businesses Shotz Coffee, Coco Bee Candle Co., and Serfes Foods will also be partnering with the Colfax Kiwanis Club to support the event.

Coco Bee will host a “Make and Take” children’s event with proceeds benefitting the fundraiser.

Serfes Foods will be hosting a special dinner event, where a portion of the proceeds will benefit the supply drive.

The dates for these events are expected to be announced shortly, said Golden.

Lastly, Shotz Coffee will be providing coupons for each person that donates supplies or money to the drive.

Colfax Kiwanis chapter member Cory Alcantar added that the Colfax School District will be donating a bus for use during the drive.

In addition to dropping off donations at the designated location during the event days, community members can also contribute by placing donations in blue Kiwanis boxes located throughout Colfax.
